The landscape carried more than 2,800 custom Z-programs, and batch manufacturing had no SAP-native traceability - compliance was being achieved through costly bolt-ons and extensive manual audit documentation.
The regulatory context made this materially different from a standard ERP modernisation. Preserve configuration, remediate code
A system conversion retained validated business configuration - significant in a regulated environment - while custom code was rationalised rather than carried forward wholesale.
Move extensions off the core
Z-program rationalisation used SAP BTP side-by-side extensions, relocating necessary customisation outside the core so future upgrades stop being blocked by it.
Make compliance system-native
SAP EWM replaced legacy WM to bring HAZMAT inventory management into the platform, converting a manual compliance burden into an enforced system behaviour.
Restructure the financial close
Universal Journal activation eliminated manual reconciliation across plant sites, accelerating period-end without adding process overhead.
Put analytics in the operator's hands
Embedded analytics with Fiori dashboards surfaced batch manufacturing, quality inspection and plant maintenance KPIs at the point of work.
